Our services

Our therapy and facilitation services are holistic, community-centred, and rooted in anti-oppressive practice.

Counselling therapy

We live in challenging and often overwhelming times and we all need a place to rest and heal our own hearts.

Our therapy sessions honour how you learn and move at the pace of your informed and embodied consent. A gentle pace of change makes it possible to come into calm connection with ourselves and others.

Our therapy sessions integrate:

Heart-centred, compassionate inquiry

Gentle mindfulness and grounding

Embodied and nature-based practices

Deep listening

And whatever we discover works for you

At Sunflower we recognize that anxiety, depression, and addictions, as well as diverse ways of learning, distraction and focusing patterns, are coping strategies. While they may be constricting us now, they have roots in our innate desire to protect ourselves, thrive and grow.

Sunflower’s counselling and therapy practices believe that:

Painful and constricted ways of being often begin as coping and survival strategies when we are young

These strategies make sense in relation to our lived experiences, legacies of trauma and loss, and experiences of systemic oppression

Embodied and nature-based practices

Nature-based therapy services (in person)

Being outside together in nature wakes us up, and slows us down. As we relax, we come into our senses and our body. Nature-based therapy sessions are grounded in a holistic view of health and affirm the connection of mind, body, heart and spirit.

Natural systems teach us that we are part of an ever-changing whole. This can be powerful for all of us impacted by trauma, systems of oppression and living through the climate emergency. We can bend, we can break even, but we can also heal and grow lives of purpose.

Nature-based sessions include:

Walks at a gentle pace, or in ways that are accessible for you

Experiencing rest in both movement and stillness to unwind our nervous systems and slow down

Mindful, observation practices that awaken us to our senses

Heart-centred, compassionate inquiry to discover your story

Holistic therapy online and by phone

Coming to therapy online or by phone invites us to create a space at home to rest and reconnect with ourselves.

Online and phone sessions can include:

Mindfulness and centring practices

Growing awareness of our body and sensations in relation to our thinking patterns and emotions

Art and journaling experiences

Heart-centred, compassionate inquiry to discover your story

Coming to therapy is a hopeful and courageous act of faith in our willingness to change and grow

Present: $160/hour
The full rate for counselling is recommended for people who have insurance coverage, professional income, assets and investments (like owning a home)

We also offer counselling on a sliding scale, with spots reserved for people who do not have access to resources to pay.

Facilitation services

At Sunflower, our team of community-supportive facilitators work with you to design participatory processes where every voice is heard, relationships are nourished, critical analysis of power dynamics are shared, and anti-oppression is practised.

Our facilitation sessions can include:

Relational focus and building trust

Space for every voice

Pause and reflection

Embodies practice

Generative exploration

Our clients include:

  • Change-makers
  • Communities of practice
  • Non-profits
  • Co-operatives
  • Co-housing communities
  • And people just like you!

We welcome inquiries to work with you to co-design facilitation processes, experiential events, and communities of practice so your work stays alive and relevant over time.

We can work on an hourly basis through the discovery phase where we co-create a proposal. In the initial complimentary 45-minute meeting, you can expect to come out with a clearer sense of the possibilities and whether you’d like to work with us. We’ll come away with a sense of your purpose, scope of the work and budget.

Facilitation supports “practicing futures together, practicing justice together, living into new stories. It is our right and responsibility to create a new world.”

—adrienne maree brown, Emergent Strategy
